I recently had a few nights stay at the uber sleek Skuggi Hotel in Reykjavik, Iceland so I wanted to share some photos from my time there. This was my first time visiting Iceland and I’ve wanted to visit since I can remember. So, this trip had to be absolutely perfect and unforgettable! My sister and I got to planning the trip, and after visiting a number of travel agents we decided to go it alone and research hotels by ourselves. After reading endless reviews, we stumbled upon Skuggi Hotel…I’m still unsure on how it’s pronounced but Skuggi means ‘shadow’ which is where the grey, minimal and cool interior takes inspiration from. As soon as we saw the photo’s of the rooms, the breakfast and of course location we knew this was the one. It’s the epitome of a trendy city hotel.
The interior of slick black and volcanic grey runs through the lobby, restaurant and into the rooms with accents of white to mellow it out. Whimsical quotes all unique to each room adds character- a worthy Instagram.
Located right in the middle of the city it’s a stone throw away from the main streets of Reykjavik and the coast- It really is the perfect location. The hotel is located next to one of the city’s oldest streets, Hverfisgata and is easy walking distance to cute cafes, upscale restaurants and uber- cool vintage stores. It will take you just under a 10-minute walk to landmark Hallgrimskirkja church, which I recommend you take a trip up to the top to see the whole city spread out in front of you. It really makes for a colourful and breathtaking view.
I recommend opting for breakfast when booking at Skuggi, it’s a generous spread of freshly-made pastries and bread, which I may or may not have taken full advantage of! The eggs, bacon and sausages are also nice while the porridge is great if you’re feeling the cold of Iceland and need something to warm up with. The coffee and selection of drinks is extensive with a magnitude of Teapig flavours to choose from- a definite must to start the day with!
