So, it’s still a little cold outside, but don’t let that stop you from being the fashion girl you truly are! I for one am enjoying these last few weeks of wrapping up in my favourite winter pieces. When it comes to winter dressing there’s common thinking into it not being very flattering or stylish. However, I have a few tips and tricks to pull you out of your winter rut.
Winter is known for being blisteringly cold and completely unpredictable. It can catch you off-guard and ruin an outfit in a moment- That cute suede jacket you put on looked great in the crisp sunny morning, but completely out of place in the downpour of rain that catches you on your commute home (speaking from experience). Whether you’re catching up with friends over a walk in the park with your pups or you’re wandering around the city on your lunch break, you’ll want to hear a few of my tips to surviving the last weeks of winter- in style.
3 Steps to Winter Dressing in January
AMP UP THE VOLUME
The bigger the jacket the better. Pair skinny jeans with an oversized jacket and jumper with a statement boot for a flawless winter outfit. Accessorise with an oversized scarf to cover your neck and ears from the cold and compliment with a smaller cross body bag to balance out the oversized jacket.
– An outfit that oozes both style and comfort, one I would recommend for the weekend.
INVEST IN A HAT
Believe me, you will not be taking it off for the last of the winter weeks. Wearing a hat has loads of positives; it keeps in the heat, your ears will be toasty and warm, no reason to worry about your hair blowing around in the wind if you’re wearing a hat to keep it in check, if it rains don a baker boy hat which, keeps your hair dry and the rain out of your eyes so, you can actually see where you’re walking too, and they can complete and compliment an outfit tenfold.
– It’s the first thing people will notice about you, so make sure you love it!
ALWAYS BE PREPARED
Like I said winter can be a little temperamental, and January is Queen of the will it?/won’t it? weather. This doesn’t mean you need to carry every form of outfit in your bag! It just means that you need to play a clever game to win over the weather.
It’s a given that it is going to be cold, but what happens if your colleagues have turned by the heat in the office? One word: Layers. Layering is every fashion girls savior in the winter. A little string vest is a crucial component piece, I layer these under EVERYTHING in the winter. A tight jumper under a blazer is also a great way of layering whilst still looking professional at work. Then to finish add a coat. A rollneck under a dress is useful tip if you want to avoid wearing trousers.
– Also, ALWAYS carry an umbrella.
