Date night: for those of us already in relationships it’s a chance to show our other-halves that we do in fact scrub up well, and we do own clothes other than tracksuit bottoms and baggy jumpers. However, for anyone single the stress levels are high! So many questions: are jeans too casual? are heels too dressy? Is this top too low cut? Will I be too cold or hot? There are just endless possibilities and so much can go wrong BUT I have an outfit that is both dressy but not too over the top, cutesy but with a grown-up twist.
I would say this outfit is suited for dinner and drinks, and maybe a late night stroll around the cities Christmas lights…although I would probably opt for a pair of black tights because oh-my-gosh has it got ridiculously cold in the UK suddenly!
I prefer to not go full-on when it comes to a date, which is why I’ve chosen a more neutral colour palette. It’s understated, meaning you can avoid the mistake of being too dressed up and end up looking out of place.
Finding a balance between being warm and looking good can be tricky to master, I really like this trick of wearing a long, structured coat with a scarf just layered over the top. It bears a slight resemblance to the Burberry check cape that came out a few years ago. Wearing it like this for the date doesn’t ruin your outfit and hair (does anyone else get the world’s biggest knots in their hair after wearing a scarf wrapped around their neck?) – plus when you leave your date and go your separate ways you can wrap up in your scarf around your neck and battle through the cold temperatures with ease.
Aren’t the sleeves just dreamy, if I do say so myself, this Mango find was one of my best. The detailing of the sleeves perfectly compliments the floral bag that I’ve chosen for this outfit. It’s probably not an obvious choice, but this bag just screams romance and it’s just so perfect. The structure makes sure you aren’t rooting around to find things and it allows you to pop it down next to the table easily- practical and pretty!
