The importance of make-up-
“Is obvious, but it’s to make you look and feel good. You can face the world with strength and confidence. Unless it’s bad make-up.”
– Francois Nars, founder of beauty brand Nars, ElleUK.
It’s completely true, I feel 100% more confident with great make-up on and recently I’ve learnt that nailing the base level and the way you apply can make all the difference. So, after experimenting with a few different brands and styles, I’ve found a few products that I’ve been wearing almost everyday, five products that I know give me a nice base layer.
Bourjois Paris Healthy Mix Foundation // click here.
I absolutely love this, I’ve exclusively been using this for a few years now, it’s not new but it’s a drugstore fave. It’s got a medium but buildable coverage with a slightly fruity scent. It does have a slightly watery consistency, and once applied on your skin it feels slightly wet for a while, but it sinks in nicely leaving you with a healthy glow.
The foundation promises a 16-hour wear, which I think is slightly pushing it. I do find I need to top up with concealer and powder throughout the day but I’m yet to find a foundation that actually lasts what they promise. The real reason I like this foundation is because it is undetectable on my skin and I normally opt for a natural look.
NYX Dark Circle Corrector // click here.
This is a newbie in my beauty bag. It does exactly what it says on the tin, the orange pigment helps to cancel out that pesky blue of dark circles, considerably reducing them and the nature of the product means that it retains the perfect moisture due to its coconut oil ingredient. The product glides on and is easy to blend out, making it undetectable on your skin. I would recommend setting with a loose powder.
The only thing I would change is the packaging, although cute and compact it can be hard to get the actual product out, it’s definitely one to apply with your fingers.
Collection Contour Kit Highlight& Sculpt // click here.
I cannot leave the house without a little bit of contour. This one is a great product for everyday use, the bronzer is an ashier brown, not too orange and sits nicely to accentuate the cheekbones. The only thing I will say is the pigment is not of a high standard but for £3.99 you can hardly blame the product, you may just need to layer to get the results you want. The highlight is subtle yet leaves a gorgeous glow on your skin. You won’t need to layer the highlight, it being a stronger pigment than the bronzer.
I really like the packaging, it’s not fancy but rather practical for using. The wider pan allows you to swirl your brush in the powder with ease.
Lily England The Marble Luxe Makeup Brush Set & Brush Holder // click here.
These brushes are marble, rose gold and vegan so, really you can’t not like them. Hands up: who gets annoyed when a brush ruins your foundation? Or doesn’t blend your eyeshadow right? These ultra pretty brushes are impressively soft to the touch and blend, buff and set make- up with ease.
So, what I wanna know is what are your beauty picks to nailing the perfect base layer?
